Day Four ~ Buena Vista

The ride to Buena Vista from Colorado Springs is just breathtaking. Actually, you would be hard pressed to find a spot in the Rocky Mountains that isn't breathtaking. The Collegiate Peaks stand guard over the town and I just had to take a snapshot of them. When riding in yesterday from Colorado Springs on Highway 24, we could see these majestic mountains in the distance. Mount Harvard, Mount Yale, and Mount Princeton. These are prestigious institutions of higher learning. Very appropriate.
The Cafe in the foreground serves a mean breakfast; good food mixed with good service.
We found Highway 82 without a hitch. The sun was warm on our backs, the road was basically untraveled, and we were in paradise. We were riding right smack dab into the heart of the Rocky Mountains and the scenery was postcard pretty. A snowcapped mountain was on our left, reflecting in a pool of blue. It was calling our name, asking for a picture.
We stopped on the shoulder of the road and let the beauty of the moment soak into our hearts and souls. Who says there is no God? Then we noticed a sign, Mountain Pass to Aspen Closed. It couldn't be true. A nice local confirmed. Yes, we had to turn around. The pass to Aspen didn't open until Memorial Day. But this wasn't going to ruin our day. Aspen isn't the only place in Colorado to eat lunch and shop.
