I didn’t say much about the Oxford Suites in yesterday’s blog entry.  This is one very nice hotel.  Our room, which turned out to be near the rear entrance, which made getting our luggage in easier, was large and well appointed.  The very nice couch and large TV with VCR/DVD in the living room area was nice because they offered a good variety of movies in their library near the lobby.  Lots of goodies, like Milk Balls, Popcorn, etc. were also available for a small price.  The movies were free.  Also, the early evening happy hour with complimentary drinks for the guests was appreciated.  Breakfast time saw a full breakfast with a great array of available foods including eggs, waffles, pancakes, sausages, bacon, several juices, fruit, and plenty of coffee.

From Redding we continued east on CA-299, which luckily had straightened out, to CA-44 through the Lassen National Forest.  Redding is in the central valley section of California, which means although there are a few foothills around it is still more like desert. Dry and hot in summer. The road on towards Susanville goes on up through a beautiful forest.  Lassen National Forest is quite a nice area. This was about the nicest 110 miles you can spend in a car.  Up and across the mountains and then down the east side to Susanville.

We took a fairly quick stop in Susanville to grab a bite to eat. Susanville looks to be a nice little city just near the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada range.

About 80 miles south is Reno, and we were happy to get there.  Tonight we begin a three night stay at the Peppermill Hotel and Casino.
