Oh Beautiful City

Not such an easy place to get to. Actually that is not quite correct. It just requires a change from the train to a bus. Since a number of us foreigners were leaving Datong on the same train we decided to group together. A little hard when we were all in different carriages! Anyway, a hard sleeper from Datong. Leaving at 2230 at night and arriving at 6am or so in a town called Taiyuan. From the train station we got taxis to the bus station but of course we couldn't buy our bus tickets until 30minutes or so before the bus went. And the bus didn't go for an hour and a half. I was feeling really quite miserable. I was running a temperature and sitting in an non-air conditioned stuffy bus-station even early in the morning was not nice. I was glad I was with a group of others who were going to the same place as I could let them do most of the figuring out how to get there and I could follow like a sheep.
Luckily for me my hostel has overbooked and doesn't have a dorm bed available. So they give me a double room at the same price.
The hostel is called the Yamen Hostel and I would well recommend it. In the old town near one of the towers. Old-style courtyard building on one level. The staff is helpful, friendly and speak good english. There is a little cafe in it that you can get some nice food.
I manage the next day to go for a walk around the old town and take the required photos. It is a very pretty old town, so many photos. It takes only a couple of hours to see it all and during that time I manage to get a massage. The massage-person (can't spell the correct word) told me I had a temperature of 38C and gave me a cup of hot water to help. That was kind of him.
Anyway, went back to the hostel to rest up some more. Wasn't expecting to get such a bad cold!
