The Airport

Lisbon Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I had a fantastic weekend in Lisbon in september 2007. I want to give you some advice and I hope that you enjoy reading my Blog and that you can use it if you go to Lisbon. The pictures will give you impression of the fantastic atmosphere in Lisbon. It certainly hasn't the character of a city. However this city has 2 miljon inhabitants. During my visit to Lisbon's different quarters, I had the feeling of being in a small village. I'll write something about each quarter that I visited.

The Airport

If you arrive in Libon:

DON"T buy a Lisboa Card. It's more expensive than a public card and you can visit museums free on sunday.

DO buy a public tranportation card. You can use this in Metro, Electrico, Bus and Elevator (really cool).

DO greet people with BOM DIA. They will be very friendly.

The Portugese DON'T speek English very good. Use your hands to communicate with them and write busnumbers. Good luck!

Baixa, Bairro Alto and Alfama

A Plaza in Baixa

We stayed in Baixa in hotel Duas Nacoes. (I write this for the second time. The first time something went wrong !#$%*^&) Read my review!

Staying in Baixa is great. You have a few hot Spot's in this quarter and you are near to every sort of transportation.

What to de in Baixa, Bairro Alto and Alfama?

Take Electrico 28. It's the oldest one. You drive through very narrow streets and see beautifull buildings. DON't go in peak hourers. It's free with your public card.

Take elevator Santa Justa. It's an old building designed by a student of Eiffel and you have an amazing view. It's also free with your card.

Walk through the small, romantic streets of Alfama and see all the beautifull buildings, stores and restaurants.

See the different plazas. Make pictures in the morging and after dark.

Drink a marguerita cocktail at Hardrock Cafe. (metro Restauradores)

Eat chocolate salami!!!!!!! ;-))

Wow, this Hardrockcafe is great. It's small and cosy. The wall is beautifull with different items of popstarts. I didn't eat there, but you can diner until midnight. The drinks are fantastic. My favorite is Margeurita (tequilla, lemon, salt and orangelicor). Delicious!
If you pay more, you can take your glass home. But there's a shop were you can find different hardrock cafe items, including a t-shirt desigdes by Shakira.
Metro Restauradores, Baixa, Lisbon
The biggest shopping centre in Europe! With cinema, bowling, more than 35 restaurants. Near Benfica.
Don't forget to eat there!
The Elevator Santa Justa (Elevadore Santa Justa) is the best in Lisbon. It's more than 100 years old and designed by a student of Eiffel. You can get in, with a public transportation card or buy a ticket. The building and the view are great!
