Ski Day!

me on the lift

Today was the EF teachers day trip to ski!!  A bus picked us up from my school bright and early at 7:30am.  It took about an hour to get to the mountain, and we had to hike the last bit.  A woman in her cart blocked the road to the mountain in protest b/c the village wasn't getting money from the mountain (or at least that's what I'd been told).  So we got our snow suits and gear, got ready and hit the slopes!

Yeah, and remember that I haven't been skiing in many years.  So I pointed my skiis down the hill to the lift, pushed off and went...and kept going...and going...without turning (not for a lack of trying either).  Yeah, it was a graceful crash and burn at the bottom to stop.  There went any delusions that I'd just pick up where I left off.

So a couple runs later, I was feeling better and got my skiing legs back under me.  Then I caught an edge!!!  That was fun, though not wholly unexpected since the skiis were heavier than I'm used to and they had rounded edges, so they were most definitely not sharp.  I skiied with Wandi almost the whole day, except for my last run before lunch and my last run of the day.  After lunch, we explored another part of the mountain (which reminds me of Okemo, except much fewer trails and trees).  I was going down the easy part when I got run over!!!!!!  There were no shouts or yells from behind, just me being bowled over unceremoniously.  It wasn't fun.

So I hit the deck three times (once wasn't my doing) and I have a sore shoulder from the last two.  But it was worth it, just to go skiing in China!!!  How many people can say they've done that?

Wow skiing in China. How cool. I've only snowboarded once and it wasn't pretty so I'm glad you found your ski legs and were able to have some fun.
