Comfortable hotel that doesn't cost an arm and a leg
Nanjing Grand Hotel (on Guangzhoulu) isn't near any of the major attractions, but taxis are relatively cheap here in Nanjing. The hotel caters to more business people than tourists, at least that's the impression I have. Even at their "casual" restaurant off the lobby, I felt a bit underdressed. Most of the staff speak English, and if they don't, they'll find someone who does. The food is good, though they may want to make it clearer what the restaurants are and where. I ran into a couple problems with that. Nothing serious. The bed- the hardest I've had in China. Doesn't bother me though, the blanket and pillows are extra soft. A/C works fine (even a little too 'fine' at times). TV has CNN International and Discovery in English. Bathroom is standard. Slippers and robe provided, as is hot water kettle, tea, mugs and bottled water. I really like this hotel, and recommend it to anyone staying in Nanjing.
