Oak Ridge, Honduras: Diving on the south side of the island just off shore from Oak Ridge.
Diving is what Roatan
is all about and sinse I had only done one dive while I was in West End so I wanted to dive while I was in Oak Ridge. There are a couple of people who will take you diving in Oak Ridge but the best place is the Reef House
in Oak Ridge. They have a resort on the reef side of town that looked quite nice when we walked though it. They cater mainly to doing diving packages and are priced for the diver. Our dive was a single tank dive that was $50. Not the cheapest but we were in Oak Ridge and out to go diving. The diving here on this side was amazing. It seems like it is more pristine than on the more well used West End side.
Oak Ridge, Honduras: The Church wall dive.
You feel like you are in a less used area. The dive we did was called the Church Wall dive and it was just a stones throw from the town but it was amazing. The reef took a drop and there was a wall that dropped down into what seemed like a bottomless pit. We had sea kayaked here earlier and ther was a dramatic color change in the water. A light turquoise tropical blue dramatically changed to a dark blue at what wee though was a dropoff and it was. There were lots of undamaged corals and some fishes. We guide showed us some eels in their crevices and I saw a file fish and some tother cool underwater scenery. If I was to come back to Roatan I might consider doing a day trip with some diving in Oak Ridge. It would bring you to the other side of the island where things are wilder.
