The holiday season has arrived! "It's begining to look a lot like Christmas" around here.
Music is always a part of holiday celebrations everywhere and Springfield is no exception. My daughter's song and dance team gave a holiday themed performance at Springfield Mall on Saturday afternoon amid decorations and shoppers. The differetn age groups combined to finish with Christmas carols.
Neighborhood Christmas light displays on homes have long been a tradition in the USA. (I remember seeing spectacular displays in the Hastings Ranch subdivision in Sierra Madre, CA, when I was a child, or the amazing illuminated Balian House in Pasadena, where tour buses lined up for a view.) Businesses put up lights as do neighborhood homes. Awards are given in some subdivisions for the best displays. I'll put up a selection of what might be seen in neighborhoods around here. There are always many families out to see the displays on foot or by car. A popular variation in Virginia is to put up only greenery and electric candles in the widows, echoing the Colonial custom of window candles and fruit arrangements.
