This entry is somewhat off-topic, I suppose. (But, given the place of the Broadway Musical in American culture, maybe it is on-topic. Let’s see where I can go with this journal entry.) Broadway Musicals classic and contemporary, with their song and high-energy dance numbers to carry the story forward, are a popular part of American high school performing arts programs. The surrounding community looks forward to seeing the annual productions. Our local high school just finished the run of its production of the classic American musical The Music Man. I have been doing a great deal of “traveling” over the last two months in shuttling participants around to and from the school (often late into the night) and watching the show come together as a parent and theatre arts program “booster”. (My daughter was Assistant Stage Manager and Grip Chief on the show.)
More than 100 students from Theatre Arts, Chorus, Band, and Orchestra classes at the high school assembled and worked together from early March to May to put on the musical.
