Lake Tahoe in Winter

Once upon a time there was a little blond girl named John Muir and a little asian girl name Teddy Roosevelt and they went hiking, camping, kayaking and roadtripping all over California, but mostly in a special place called Big Sur.

Lake Tahoe in Winter

Michelle, Puppy and I went up to Reno for a weekend. When we all realized we didn't like to gamble, we hightailed it to Lake Tahoe. The resulting day was a drifty, snowy blur of blues and whites, of snow angels and stunning views.

We built a snowman, admired a snowy beach, threw ourselves into a snowbank and did all the things that San Franciscans only get to do when they go to Lake Tahoe in winter.

On the way back to Reno from Tahoe (Hwy 50 to 395, I think), these signs started popping up on the side of the road, with messages ranging from the instructional "Slow down!" to the cryptic "RIP Here Lies So-and-so, Killed by Highway" to the just plain odd "Killer Highway!". I thought I had stumbled into some bad horror movie. You know... 3 young people on a desolate stretch of highway stumble across creepy little town with a ... dum dum dum .. .KILLER HIGHWAY!!! Eeeeeeaaaghhh. Turns out, there simply had been a lot of drunk driving incidents on that stretch of road and the locals had gone a little overboard with their signmaking.
