Mancora
April 16, 2008
Surfer town on the north coast of Peru. Ok, but not as nice as MontaƱita in Ecuador.
On the way to Mancora, the bus had taken us through some very poor towns in the desert. One in particular seemed to be on the side of a massive landfill type garbage dump. To get to the town we actually had to drive through the landfill site and the smell was absolutely horryfying. Most people in the bus were covering their faces (locals included). What was most depressing was that there seemed to be huts in the middle of it and people scavaging through the garbage. There is something seriously wrong with the world when people are forced to eek out an existence at this level. It really shocked me!
