World War II Memorial

I made a recent trip to DC as a part of training for our Navy Chief Selectees of Military History, specifically Naval History.  I'd been to the city before but never actually took the time to see the monuments and memorials.  This trip was soley for history.  The sites visited were:  World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Naval Air & Space Museum, Navy Memorial, and the Arlington Cemetery.  All I can say is wow!  I was able to see all of this in a day and it left me salivating to return to see more.  This city is packed with sites and I plan to see them all!!

My most memorable experience was the hour presentation of the evolution of the Navy Chief Petty Officer rank and uniform.  As a Chief Petty Officer and a person who enjoys history, this presentation was an immediate hit.  The presenter is a Master Chief Petty Officer, who knew his subject thoroughly.  He brought along old chevrons and various patches from as far back as 1878, including uniforms, hats and more from the past.

Another notable site, was the realistic sculptures at the Korean War Memorial.   They are life size, a bit scary, and capture your attention immediately!

Overall this was a great trip.  It even more so special because of my military background/experience.  I highly recommend this city for visit if in the Virginia/Maryland area.

What a great profile you showed of DC. It has been awhile for me but I lived there from 89-92. At the time I was married to a Marice who was stationed at Marice Barracks 8th & I. Although I was young at the time I was there, I don't think I apprecieated the city then as I am sure I would if I was to go back now. I ended up living there for 3 years. I did see a lot of the pics you share. Great city to visit. Lots of history.
Photos are great!
