Clarksville IN to Salem, IL

Our parking spot last night turned out to be a very cool place.  There is a street rod show in Louisville this week-end at the fair grounds so we had a private showing with all the fancy cars in the KOA.  It is hard to believe that the owners drive these cars on the main roads with all of the crazies out there.  We talked with a couple of guys from Quebec that were having the time of their lives driving to different shows this summer in a little black roadster with a plate name of SHE ROXX.  They were headed to Pigeon Forge, TN next.  We were surprised to see a man in his sixties driving a “rat rod”; no logic to the exterior décor but it sure had a healthy sounding engine (or throaty muffler?).

The local fire department visited the park this morning with flashing lights and stopped two rigs down from us.

Nice Flames
Never did find out why they were there, didn’t see any smoke nor ambulance activity.

On the way out of town, we stopped at the local Camping World for a new water filter.  The blues ones we have been using seem to only last for about 3 weeks before sprouting leaks at the top.  We are going to try another brand (Camco  Taste Pur CX90) that has a clean out system to it.  Hope it stands the test of use better than the old style.

We are back onto country roads, SR 60, 150, and 50 across the state of Indiana.  Again I am surprised at the forested landscape, with soft rolling hills.  Lots of corn and soybean fields. We talked with the local sheriff about the crops and he described the soybean growth and harvest to us.  They grow the whole season, kind of flop over due to growing up to 6 feet tall, dry up, turn brown, and are ready for harvest.  There are lots of pods on each vine.

Silver doesn't always say old folks!
Skiing in IN?  Yes, Ski Paoli (ski area), who wouda thunk??

Saw lots of bikers today, no helmets!  In one group I counted 24 pairs of riders whiz by.

Stayed at Stephen A Forbes State Rec Area for the night.  Nice well-drained, fairly level parking pads, wooded, electric only.  Sure is nice to be fully self-contained in parks like this.  J   Huge Black bugs, park attendant told us they are horse flies and they bite.

Gas in Paoli…..$2.999…….13.4 mpg….city streets, commute traffic, and back roads.

Hi, John thought it was pretty neat that you saw the two biggest street rods shows on the East coast. And you don't even have a car!!! Stay safe.

Sounds like a good trip. Many bikers are headed to Sturgis right now. We even saw some a month early on our trip. Glad your gas is still under $3.
