kayaking and scubadiving
We arrived at Cozumel at 0800, we had made arrangements for an off shore excursion of clear bottom kayaking and unlimited snorkeling. We really had our hearts set on some scubadiving though, but we could not set 2 excursions thru the boat at once. We left hoping that once there if time permited we could do some scubadiving on our own. The first excursion was supposed to be from 1000 to 1300, giving us 4 hours of free time in which we thought we could easily get 2 dives in 3 hours.
Now here is were our train of thought was totally off! We thought that by 1000 we would be geared up and jumping in the kayak, to our excursion guide it meant that we would be leaving for the beach around tenish! We left for Playas Uvas at 1030, then we still had to get the safety brief and do's & don'ts once there, anyway to make along story short we din't even jump into the kayak until almost noon.
At this point we were pretty dissapointed thinking theres no way we can get even one dive in. The kayaking took about 45 minutes, we had been divided into 2 groups one doing the kayaking first and the other snorkeling. I am so glad we did our kayaking first because as we were returning to the beach there was a boat loading up tanks and other gear for diving we got closer for a better look, when the dive guide looks at us and says you guys wanna go?Our first dive was the Palancar Rosa wall, we were down to 90ft. for about 45 minutes. We have no pictures of this dive because our cheap little water camera was only good to 50ft. The next dive was at Chankanaab National Park this was only a 40ft dive so, that is were the dive pictures come from.
We were with a group of 8 divers, we made 10 so no cattle boat for us! The divers were mostly European and very nice, with the exception of 2 Americans besides us, that were master scuba divers. The lady was doing her rescue diver certification so, that made us feel even safer! The guide was also very good and made us feel welcome. In between dives the guide let everyone snorkel and wouldn't you know it we never got our snorkels! It did not stop us we jumped in anyway so, we got our snorkeling in also. I love it when everything goes my way!
