January in Oz

January was fairly uneventful so that will explain my lack of updating of the blog and the shortness of this entry. Did go and see a 20twenty game of cricket with john and mo who being irish had no idea what was going on but enjoyed the batsman hitting the ball hard and the fielders throwing it fast. It was held at the Telstra stadium which is where the olympics were held and the rugby world cup final england won. It was a very nice stadium. The whole olympic park was very nice, if a little hard to get to. It was quite a boring game with NSW being thumped so there was no real tension.
I also went to see the tennis being held there, a warm up tournament for the australian open. Unfortunately all the big names were in melbourne practicing and the biggest players all got knocked out in the early rounds leaving a really annoying lanky australian who i am glad lost to a russian in the final. However in the doubles finals richard gasquet and his partner beat the bryans brothers who are the best in the world. Richards Gasquet's partner was jo wilfred bouma who knocked andy murray out in the first round in the australian open and went on to make it to the final.
I do not really think I did much else in january. The weather was pretty average, actually quite reminiscent of the english summer we had last year so it has been no fun. 2/3 of queensland managed to be declared flooded.
