Words cannot describe the beauty of this place

Grand Canyon Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

This was my second trip to the States; I went by myself and stayed with a friend in San Juan Capistrano at the beginning of my holiday, and another friend in Seattle at the end. As I needed to fill in some time in between a friend gave me the idea of a Contiki Tour, and what a great idea it turned out to be.

Words cannot describe the beauty of this place

Sunrise

Today began with a very early start. We had set the alarm to wake us up in time to see the sunrise while sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon. A few of us huddled on the cliffs and waited for the sun to show itself and expose the magnificent colours little by little until the Canyon was a blaze of red with beautiful blue skies overhead. It was a wonderful, magical moment I will never forget.

There was a helicopter ride booked to take us over the Canyon today for anyone on the tour who was interested. I was very keen to fly over the Grand Canyon and see it from a different perspective. It was a fantastic trip. We flew over acres of green trees listening to music through a headset and as we neared the edge of the Canyon the music became more dramatic until the moment we reached the edge when the music exploded in our ears in a thundering roar, and the sound and the sight assaulted our senses all at the same time.

Sunset
The Canyon is magnificent from this angle. The flight took us over the Colorado River and into little nooks and crannies of the canyon; we flew in formation with other helicopters and occasionally spotted them out the window. This was truly an amazing journey and now taken will remain in my memory forever.

Back at our accommodation, we went for a hike along the rim of the Canyon for a few hours, taking in more magnificent vistas. You have to see this wonderful place to believe it and any photo you take will not do this beautiful place justice.

After our hike, we all met back up to watch the sunset before heading off to dinner and then spend the evening among new friends playing pool in the bar.

Wow, how I would have liked to be on that chopper with you. I am a little envious :) The Grand Canyon is still high up on my wish list.
