Off to Yosemite to see some big trees
Back into the bus and on the road again. Our direction today was towards Bass Lake and a big tree or two. Giant Sequoias to be exact, these 3000-year-old trees are the largest trees in the world.
We spent two nights staying at Bass Lake and exploring the Yosemite area. We drove into the Mariposa Grove car park and walked into the grove to see the 250 or so Giant Sequoias, some of which stand over 200 feet tall and 15 or more feet in diameter. This is a magical area and stunning to walk through, surrounded by such ancient natural history.
Our visit to Yosemite National Park was marred by the heavy cloud and rain, however, we still managed to have some fun and take plenty of photos. On the drive back out of the park, it started to snow and we had to pull off the road so BK our driver could fit the snow chains. As he was not expecting to have to fit them, he found the chains buried at the back of the luggage area and it took a while for him to get his hands on them. While we had stopped on the side of the road a handful of other tour busses and cars drove passed. Once BK was ready, we headed back off again only to be stuck behind one of the tour busses, which had slid off the road and had gotten itself stuck, so we spent another hour or so waiting for that bus to get back on the road. This extra stop gave us plenty of time to play in the snow and get some great photos.
The evening was spent warming up in the bar playing a couple of friendly games of darts and a few games of pool. When the bar closed, we adjourned to a room to party till into the wee small hours of the morning.
