We were up early for breakfast in the hotel restaurant. I had a delicious fruit platter, which I enjoyed in the company of one of the other girls on the tour Sharyn, who went on to become one of my dearest friends.
This morning after breakfast, we had a tour of Alcatraz booked so we needed to be down on the pier early to catch the boat across. This is a fascinating place to visit, wondering through the buildings and hearing stories of life in the prison. On a clear evening, with the wind blowing in the right direction the prisoners could hear the music coming from parties across the bay, and they did have a fantastic view from the Rock.
After our tour, a handful of us caught a train out to Oakland to watch the local team; The Oakland Athletics play Kansas City Royals.
This was my first experience with American Baseball and I had a ball... no pun intended. The atmosphere was electric and it was wonderful getting behind the team.
For dinner this evening, we went to a fantastic Chinese restaurant in China Town. San Francisco has the largest ‘Chinatown’ outside China. We rode the famous San Francisco Cable Car part of the way to the restaurant and after dinner, most of us headed to the Pier for a night in the pubs. This was the last night we would all spend together as the bus was heading off in the morning, back south towards LA, and I was off to Seattle. Therefore, even though we all had a fantastic night, we were all feeling melancholy to be leaving our newfound friends.
