First 24 Hours
Back in New York... and it's like I never left. Which is weird considering all the things I did and places I visited this summer. You'd think it'd be weird coming back, but it's not. It just feels right.
Move in was hectic but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my dorm. First off, love the location. It's on a little side street in the Financial District which means no traffic and NO CAR HONKING!! Last year on the sixth floor it was absolutely horrible all hours of the night. I would wake up and wonder how I was able to sleep through all the cars and honking.
But anyway back to my dorm this year. There are a lot of good places nearby. Duane Reade right downstairs (closed on weekends though... boo). Grocery store one block away. McDonald's, Burger King, Chinese all one block away.
South Street Seaport which has stores and restaurants is three blocks away. Subway with all the major lines maybe three blocks away. Great location, especially when the weather is nice and everybody is out and about. The area gets a bit dead during the winter, but still in terms of the location it's pretty ideal. The building itself is nice too. Of all the dorms (including Water) it feels the least dorm-like. Only ten or twelve people to a floor so it's very quiet and small. The elevators are surprisingly fast (I'm on the 27th floor). There is a lounge and little gym on the second floor. Haven't gone yet, but I will tomorrow night. It will be nice to be able to work out without stepping foot outside (especially when it gets colder).
And in terms of my room.
.. couldn't have asked for anything better! I have my own bedroom (my roommate took the common room) and I have SO SO much space, I don't know what to do with it all. I have a huge, huge closet perfect for all my clothes and shoes. There's a nice-sized closet in the common area to keep cleaning supplies and other stuff. A normal-sized fridge for two people. Tons of cabinet/counter space. I even have a couch in my room for extra sitting space. All in all a fabulous dorm.AND to top it all off... gorgeous view of the Brooklyn Bridge! Matt's dorm last year had a better view of it so my view isn't as exciting as it could be. But still... it's a great, great view.
New York rules and it feels nice to be back.
