From the lowlands of Scotland to over the border to ENGLAND, we stopped for a guided tour of CARLISLE CASTLE where MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS was imprisoned in 1568. Most of the homes in this area were quaint and brick with flowers decorating the front lawns. Carlisle
Castle had a walled area with an outer gatehouse, inner bailey and the keep and part of the college was beside the castle. The highlight for me was going to the PRISON and seeing the actual TONGUE MARKS on the walls from prisoners so they could have salt! That was amazing! We were allowed to climb to the top for great views of the rest of the castle grounds and the town of Carlisle.
To the town of WETHERAL to the Cumbrian Hotel for the night, Suzi had her own room this time.
see the motte?
While waiting to go to dinner, we went to Suzi's room and drank some MEAD. Big mistake! At least for me because after a glass I was kissing the TV and then proceded to dinner feeling pretty TIPSY
and ended up spilling a glass of water on Suzi, hence giving me the name of "Spiller". I know I ticked a couple of people off. This may have been the start of why half the group wasn't too fond of us! After dinner, consisting of chicken something, we inquired about where to go for nightlife. A man told us to try YATES'S WINE LODGE, so that's where we went. This was my first overseas bar & taste of CIDER! We had a good table as we were to the left of the band and it got crowded with quite a few nice looking guys. They played 80's music
and had a female lead singer. I can't remember their name. All 3 of us got a little drunk. It was a good thing that we didn't have to walk far to our hotel! lol
When we got back I decided to call home and my sister answered. I heard her telling my mom "I think she's drunk" . My sister then said to me "Isn't a little early for that?" & I had to remind her that I was in a different time zone 5 hours ahead of her and it was 1:00am for me. That ended up being the first of what was to be many drunk evening calls home!
