The City That Never Sleeps...

New York is known as "The City That Never Sleeps," but not many people now that New York City is made up of 5 Boroughs /Counties: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. I am writing this journal in order to put an end to this madness!

The Bronx (Bronx County): The Bronx is located northeast of Manhattan. It is the only one of the city's five boroughs situated primarily on the United States mainland rather than on an island. The land was first settled by Europeans in 1639, when Jonas Bronck, for whom the area was later named, established a farm along the Harlem River in the area now known as the Mott Haven section. The Dutch and English settlers referred to the area as "Bronck's Land".

Brooklyn (Kings County): named after the Dutch town Breukelen, Kings County was one of the original 12 counties, and Brooklyn was one of the original six towns within Kings County. The county was named in honor of King Charles II of England.

Home to the Brooklyn Museum, The New York Aquarium, the world famous Brooklyn Bridge and Coney Island.

Manhattan (New York County): The borough consists of Manhattan Island, Roosevelt Island, Randall’s Island, several much smaller islands, and a small section on the mainland adjacent to the Bronx.

A commercial, financial, and cultural center of the city, Manhattan has many famous landmarks, tourist attractions, museums, and universities. It is also home to the headquarters of the United Nations and the seat of city government, as well as the Financial and Fashion District.

Home to The Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, Central Park, NASDAQ, Wall Street, Time Square, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, World Trade Center (which was destroyed), Broadway, and the best pizza!

Queens (Queens County): is the largest in area and the second most populous of the five boroughs of New York City, is furthermore the second most ethnically diverse county in the United States. The borough of Queens was originally named after Catherine of Braganza, the Portuguese-born wife of King Charles II of England.

It is home to New York City's two major airports John F.

Kennedy and LaGuardia, Shea Stadium, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, home of the U.S. Open; Silvercup Studios, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, and Queens Center.

Staten Island (Richmond County): is sometimes called "the forgotten borough," considered the most suburban of the five boroughs of New York City. The bedrock of the island was formed during the volcanic eruptions that created much of the bedrock of northern New Jersey.

Home to the Alice Austen House Museum, the Conference House, the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum, Historic Richmond Town, Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art, the Noble Maritime Collection, Sandy Ground Historical Museum, Snug Harbor Cultural Center, the Staten Island Children's Museum, and the Staten Island Museum, Staten Island Zoo, and the famous Staten Island Ferry, which offers the best view of the Statue of Liberty.

So there you have it! That’s New York City.
