This year we wanted to drive down to Portugal from Brussels. This would give us the possibility to see some of the nice places again on the way down there. We stayed in Madrid, Tours, Andorra and Talavera de la Reina.

Vitoria-Gasteiz

We were driving towards Madrid when we headed for the nearest large city in order to get some food. The biggest city seemed to be Vitoria-Gasteiz.

When we came into the city we found it full of people in the streets - it was around 6-7pm and we were really hungry for a real meal. We parked the car in the city center and walked around to find a place to eat. We found bars and cafés everywhere but no open restaurants. We got a hold of a girl that spoke some english and she explained that we now had arrived to Spain and the restaurants first opend at 9pm.

We walked around for an hour dicovering the city. It was mostly full of elderly people sitting in the cafe's and obviously some of the elderly men have had too much of the local cava to do anything else than burn their fingers on their way to big cigars. We were sure it had been a fun day in the city that we had missed  - everybody looked happy and relaxed.

We left the city and started our journey towards some food. We drove 50 km further and ended up at on of these motorway joints where the food have been lying around for way too long. Our eyes were really hungry and we just filled our plates with a lot of different food of which almost nothing was eatable - but some of it filled some holes.

We continued towards Madrid which we passed 10pm in the evening.
