Interior of Kyoto Station, you can see the different levels where the shops above ground are.

Kyoto is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Lucky to have missed out on most the the damage other places encountered during World War II, Kyoto has more places to visit, temples, shrines, palaces and gardens, than one person can see in a number of weeks, we tried. We went in early fall just the other side of typhoon season and it was over cast and cool most of time we were there. I loved it. My most favorite place to visit is the over the top golden pavilion, Kinkaku-ji. Although a little bling, it's actually a remarkably peaceful and beautiful place, it reflects off the pond so beautifully that you just have to love it. We also went to Ryoan-ji temple and gardens where the famous Zen garden sits, which is amazing, the Kiyomizudera mountain shrine and temples, Fushimi Inari red gates shrine and Toji Pagoda that largest fully wooden pagoda.

There's more though so we're headed back in about 2 weeks (Mid September 2007), so I'll get to see more then. It's an amazing place and I love it! We went last time and had Kobe Beef in a really fab famous restaurant and like last time our hotel is in the awesome Kyoto Station, which you can see the photo here of the interior of the Kyoto Station interior, well part of it. The station is a massive Department store / mall. There's a floor of restaurants, one for cloths and Kimonos, furnishing, house wears, traditional Japanese hand made gifts and Doriaki which is my favorite of favorite cakes! Pancakes with goo in the middle (by the way, I talk about food a lot, I'm a picky eater and no I don't weigh 300lb, I'm under 200 even :P ) Anyway, there's a basement super market, shops alllllllllll over! And the second side, the side where I was standing where I took the picture from, is where the hotel is and there's a theater below it. A super cool place! I love Kyoto so much! From Kyoto we also headed down to Osaka (which I've given it's own area in the blog, and Himeji which is a massive castle and so worth seeing).
