The past few days...

The past few days have kind of blurred together. Getting into school mode is just starting to come back to me, which is good considering classes start Monday. This summer seems to have lasted forever.

Aside from attending some CIEE events, I have mostly been spending my time running around the city. With my suica card (commuter pass) in hand, I am able to move around town much more easily. It has proven to be a little exhausting though. I am really enjoying spending time with the people in my program. At the same time, I am looking forward to meeting some more Japanese people, which I know will prove to be a little bit of a challenge.

This weekend will be busy as I hope to go to the aquarium in Ikebukuro, the Matsuri parade in Hibiya park, and the Tokyo Museum of Art.
We'll see if I'll be able to accomplish all of these tasks.

We went out to eat at an okonomiyaki restaurant the other night which was fun. But we didn't have okonomiyaki like I've had it before. Instead it was something like manjo or manju? It was still delicious though. I love the food here, but I have been craving a San Diego burrito. I've also discovered the joys of soft cream here. It's soft serve ice cream, but for some reason, it just tastes better. Also, I miss fruit. The fruit here is ten times more expensive than in the States, and coming from California, I miss having it so readily accessible. I'm still on the lookout for a square watermelon!

On a more scary note, I almost lost my camera in Shibuya. Meeting up with some friends, I was crossing the busiest cross intersection when I looked down and noticed it wasn't attached to my bag.
I thought for sure it was gone and that someone had stolen it. However, after retracing my steps back to the JR station, someone had seen it lying on the ground and turned it into the attendant out of good faith. Only in Japan! Lesson learned: I keep all belongings in my bag now whenever I'm on the go.

Tomorrow we're visiting an elementary school and doing an exchange with the students there. They are going to teach us some games and we're going to teach them some. It should be a lot of fun. Next week, I have an interview with FedEx Japan for an internship within their internal department. We'll see how it goes!
