Day Before Class....
August 31, 2007
Tomorrow is the first day of class and my house decided to take it easy for the first night since I got here. We have been to every form of a party in this city and it has only been a few days. There is a local Irish pub, less than a blok away from our place, that is run by a group of Japanese guys that speak Italian, kind of a trip. Harp Super is amazing. There are also the half bar, half clubs that dot the city like Astor. The top part is a bar that is a pretty classy place. They show soccer highlites on the wall as kind of an ambiance. Then downstairs is a cool club. Our house warming party was a success, about 70 people came out and we all enjoyed the night. During the day, at about 8:30 am the church bells go off and when the earliest night has been 4:00am this comes kind of early. We have already made friends with the owners of the local market, panino shop, and wine store. The south bank of the river is a little more local and not as much of a big city. This makes it s little quieter and a lot less crowded. I will post some photos of the city soon. I just have to go out and take them. This city is not too big and easily walkable. Hope all is well with everyone and thankyou for the kind words of wisdom and comments...keep them comming. I miss you all already

Arrival
August 31, 2007
So I have been here for two nights now and this place is everything I expected and more. There is so much to do around the city, whether it is bars, clubs, or just sitting in the square Florence is amazing. Yesterday as we were going around the city we say a guy try to rob a cop. Of course the guy was promply thrown to the floor and after five more arrived they threw him face first into the back of the car. This let me know that I wan't in kansas any more. The food here is amazing. Panini are cheap and really fresh. Yesterday night we cooked our first plate of pasta....made the sauce from scratch...everything was soo good. Wine is 1.50 euro for bottle and it is better than most stuff that I have had in the states. We are having a party at our flat tonight and classes start on tuesday. After the first day of class we are going to start planning out trips. I have already booked a weekend to Rome and another to the Amalfi Coast, Capri, and Pompei. All in all, aside form the amount of fresh mosquito bites, everything is going well. I am off now to explore more of the city. Stay in touch
