After the madness of our first 4 days in NYC it was a huge relief to get on the Long Island Rail Road over to our Auntie & Uncles house, where we have been pampered and looked after like princesses! We were shattered after packing all our sightseeing into 3 days and were suffering from a lack of sleep due to the ever persistent mouse scurrying around the floor of our hostel looking for food! So, when we were greeted with a hug from Maureen and shown our bedroom & bathroom (for which we wouldn't have to wait for an hour to use!!!) we were very happy bunnies indeed!
After dumping our bags, we were introduced to Gus - an american bulldog, taller than me if he stood on his back legs and weighing 140lbs - so he good squish us both in one go! He is HUGE!!! Not far behind Gus was Atticus, a dog my Auntie was house sitting for - the cutest little yapping terrier, adorable! - seeing them both together was hilarious, complete opposite ends of the dog spectrum!!!
Long Island is beautiful and so far away from the madness of Manhattan just 30 minutes away. Sal was v keen to show us the sights so took us for italian ice cream - so so good, then for a walk along Long Beach just as the sun was starting to set. It was beautiful and the first time we both felt like we are on holiday - very therapeutic and has made us so excited to get to Fiji!!! Looking a little windswept (!) Sal took us for a late night pizza at his local italian, oh my goodness did we eat a lot. Sal jokingly told our parents we would gain 5lbs whilst we were here and he is not joking - the food just keeps flowing!
Today we were at the US Open - one of my main reasons for booking the trip so that was very exciting. We saw an excellent ladies singles match, the final set of a mens doubles and wondered round the outside courts as well as catching a glimpse of James Blake warming up on the practice courts.
Tomorrow is our last day in NYC when we go over to our pre trek hotel in New Jersey where we pick up our tour group for our 3 week trip across northern america. So ttfn from New York, hopefully update you when we get to Chicago....x x x
