We let our six year old son choose the destination for our summer holiday and his choice...an Alaskan Cruise. Smart Kid!

Alaskan Railroad to Seward

Getting to sleep that night was incredibly difficult.  I don’t know if the midnight sun or the fighter jets at the air force base seemingly right outside our window that disturbed me more!

The morning came too soon and we were to be at the train station first thing to board the Alaska Railroad for Seward.   We arrived by cab just in time to check our luggage and to our shock discovered one of our suitcases was missing!     My husband and the driver sped back to the hotel and our lone piece of luggage was sitting there in the middle of the circular hotel driveway almost mockingly. ARGH!   When the cab driver was loading them, he apparently didn’t see that one!  We managed to get our bags checked, without a moment to spare and before we knew it we were boarding the train!  My husband had done his research, as usual, and knew to get us a seat in the final car, the Dome car.  It was more luxurious and less crowded then the other cars jammed with people.  We only had to share it with two other couples.  It was perfect!  We ate breakfast and then father and son spend most of the time on the back of the caboose, freezing of course, while I sat nice and toasty, catching the scenery from the inside!
