Military Odyssey 2007
August 27, 2007
For those people interested in the history of conficts in the world the Military Odyssey is a must. This three day event brings together the best and the most re-enactment groups in the world. These includes groups from Americas putting on battles from the American Civil War as well as those from the second world war and the gulf conflict. As a person who is interested in the English Civil war it was a prime time for me to see a re-enactment of a battle that included some 600 people. The main 'battleground' was home to some amazine battles with loud bangs from artillary and small arms fire. One battle even had air support from world war one aircraft. Horses, tanks, aircraft and men on foot fought all day for the crowds. Apart from this battleground there were two other arenas where knights fought for honour, regiments of soliders from all periods of history showed off their skills in drill moves as well as mounted skills of the cavalry. There were stalls of collectable items as well as those selling EVERYTHING you needed to become a member of the groups. If you are planning a trip in the summer next year in the UK I would strongly recommend going along. Apart from the re-enactments in the arenas there were living history displays where people would answer any questions about the period of history the were in or the associations they were part of. This is a great family day out.
