When we walked over to the Prom shortly after arriving, we saw this of a rainbow and took it to be a good sign.

For the four months prior to this point, Felixstowe had just been a funny name.  Orwell High School had responded to Jen's availability posting on Bluewave and since it sounded good, she decided to go with it.  Blue wave paid for two days of Jen's accomodation at "The Felixstowe Folly"-- a bed and breakfast down near the shore.  While many people's hearts soar when they hear the words "Bed and Breakfast,"  I cringe.  I'm sure it was much nicer than anywhere else we would have paid to stay, but bed and breakfasts are tough for me... not enough flexibility or anonymity for my taste.  This one was run by a lovely woman who was an immense help to us, but it meant coming and going by her schedule and evenings of multiple hour conversations that ate into our planning and resting time.

We took the first afternoon and evening to explore the town and make appointments with several of the estate agents to see available apartments.  Felixstowe is an old seaside-escape town, filled with attractive brick buildings and the elderly who come to convalesce.  They have a pebbley beach, a pier now filled with arcade amusements (with more of the like further down the promenade) a few pavilions and parks, a high street, a movie theater, a Morrison's, an Arco, a train station with a single track, and from an outsider's perspective that's about it.  Many of residents work at the Port of Felixstowe-- a huge container port that handles much of England's commercial shipping traffic.  This was fascinating to us as you can watch HUGE ships pulling in to port from anywhere in Felixstowe.
