In January this year (2007) I was finally able to pack my bags and head for Africa. I spend 6 wonderful weeks down there together with an american friend. South Africa have so much: great people, beautiful nature, wildlife, interesting history, interesting culture.. and the list goes on.

If you're a bit like me, and hate the typical tourist traps, you should learn how to pick your places. Going to South Africa without being on a safari is like celebrating Christmas without Santa.

Buffalo Hills is a small private game reserve not too far away from Plettenberg Bay, yet it is hidden away from most people. I didn't hear about this place before I was actually in Plettenberg.
They have lodges as well as different kind of safari-offers. Overnight stays are expensive. But that's how it is when it's private. R1100 is the cheapest accommodation, which is about $183. Half day safaris is a lot cheaper, and definitely an experience worth paying for. R650 ($100) is what you pay, and in return you get: coffee and rusk (South African biscuit), bush walk (with a very good guide!), breakfast (egg and bacon, like the rest of the country), game drive and a giant lunch (they served us ostrich).

They don't have the animals you really wanna see when you come to Africa, like lions and elephants, but still, they offer such a nice atmosphere and a great experience. These people are more interested in treating the animals right, than getting a whole lot of tourists here. This really shows. They have zebras, rhinos, buffalos, giraffes, baboons, impalas, leopard (very difficult to spot, though), kudu and wildebeast.. it gives you a glimpse of Africa and the feeling you get at this place, you'll never forget.
