After leaving White Sands National Monument, I continued driving east and north along U. S. Highway 70 to the nice town of Alamogordo.  Alamogordo is a town of just over 31,000 located northeast of Las Cruces in Southern New Mexico.  I have been here several times and have explored the town pretty thoroughly.  Alamogordo has a number of fine museums like the New Mexico Museum of Space History, the Flickinger Center for Performing Arts and the Alamogordo Museum of History which has a rare 47 star U. S. Flag.  The people are very friendly too.  My plan for the next day was to drive south down U. S. Highway 54 to El Paso and then catch Interstate 10 east.  I saw signs for "the newest motel in town" and decided to check it out and write it up for TB.  Grabbed a bite at Applebee's first.
