The bay at night from the board walk
I'm not a hot weather person, I'm sort
of like a plant, too much heat, not enough water, I wilt. We went to
Malta as our last proper holiday before I started my masters and just
after I moved to England. Malta is an amazingly beautiful place,
don't get me wrong, we had a great time... in some ways... BUT oh
my God was it bloody hot, there's not a lot of shade, there are tons
of vending machines everywhere with drinks and ice cream, but I cant
eat too many sweet things without feeling horrifically ill and they
were always out of still water and neither of us like sparkling
water. It's like trying to drink acid if there's no flavor to it.
So, we did a lot of our walking at night and took a private car
around the island as a tour.
The beach at night, the squares are small pools that have been cut into the sandstone beach
It took us around the city and then out
into the sides of the island where the fishing villages are. We took
a short tour of the mid evil walled city as well and there we took a
horse and buggy tour, it was great. The island is beautiful, I never
realized but the whole thing is Limestone and the beaches are all
limestone so there are huge holes all over where the water is eating
away the surface, I cant see where it would be comfortable to sun
bathe down there (the beach is down from the main road and walkways
and buildings, a large drop off so you use the stairs to get down),
there are also little bugs everywhere you step, the scurry and
there's a ton on cockroaches, so if it's one of your phobias, I would
suggest you think of somewhere else to go. But, that's not saying
it's a dirty place or unkept place. It's actually more of a resort
island and very glamorous. Though, I think it I were to ever go
back, I would go in the winter.
