Frankfurt-Hauptbahnhof-Central railway station, Germany
The fact is, Frankfurt is the most visited city I have been in the world. The reason I am frequently there because of my work and also my main transit station to wherever I want to go next. Frankfurt is a financial centre of Germany. There are many big banks in Frankfurt city. So many businessmen come there to deal with stocks and financial matters. My personal view, Frankfurt are very different from other city in Germany, it has it own charm and lately, there are so many people go there to look for a better earning and living. Of course since Frankfurt was name as one of the richest city in Europe. Long time ago, it is so hard to find someone that can converse in English but now, you don’t have to worry, many people can speak English. So you can’t get lost anymore. Deutsche is not an easy language to learn by the way.
Frankfurt is the 5th largest city in Germany and it is situated on the Main River.
Frankfurt-Frankfurt Cathedral, Germany
Frankfurt is also known to be one of the largest red light districts in Germany. It is located not far from Hauptbahnhof, the main railway station. I like to walk around the Frankfurt am Main, either window shopping or just looking around. Opposite of the railway station, there are street called Munchenerstrasse. I called this street the ‘Middle Eastern Street’, the reason is because there is a Mosque, many ‘halal’ restaurants you can choose from, for example Turkish, Lebanese or Moroccan, cheaper supermarket, souvenirs shop and the most important is where I can get my Turkish CD and DVD.
The big and best shopping area, take the S8 train and stop at Hauptwache station, you can shop there until you drop. I always buy dairy and skin care products, many people say that Germany produce the best.
Frankfurt-Statue at Romer, Germany
When you get tired of shopping, there are many cafes and bars around this area that you can have a drink. Most of the bars are nicely decorated. If you get hungry, I recommend this street at Schafergasse, they have small restaurant and the price there are not very expensive. There are Thai, Japanese, Turkish and North Indian restaurant. I always eat there when I am in Frankfurt. You can eat there or take away.
I can say that Frankfurt is a cultural city too. I saw a couple Opera houses. There are also plenty of festival and exhibition held in this city. There are a big churches there, Frankfurt Cathedral are the biggest. Most people don’t even know that Frankfurt have a cathedral. A place you must visit when you are in Frankfurt, is Romer (or is it spelt Rummer).
Frankfurt-Infront of the Teddy Bear Shop at Romer, Germany
It is a town hall and the houses are very beautiful. It is nice to take photo in this place. You can get your souvenirs there too. There is also located my favourite shop, a Teddy bear shop. You can find anything from soap to lollipop in a shape of a bear and of course nice soft teddy bear to bring back home. Earlier I mentioned that Frankfurt has it own charm not like Berlin or Munich which you can fall in love instantly. It will grow on you, slowly.
The first time I was in Frankfurt airport, I was told by a colleague to go to Meeting point at the arrival hall B and wait there until it’s time for the bus to depart. It was about 3 degrees Celsius outside and it is good to wait inside, where is it much warmer. There is a small bar beside the Italian restaurant at the Meeting point.
Frankfurt-the tall glass is the Weizen, Germany
That is the first time I tried Weizen, I chose this beer from many of other beers that they sell in that bar. It became a ritual each time I touch down in Frankfurt airport. It is a must for me to have Weizen even though it is 6am in the morning. My excuse when people ask me, “I need to warm my body” ;-) . I was in Frankfurt last month and the small bar is no longer there, they renovated a lot of parts in the airport, so sad. I guess I have to find a new ritual to do while waiting for the bus next time. J
