Calpe
In the summer of 2006 I went to the south of Spain near Benidorm. My parents have a 2nd house there in the region of Lliber near a town called Calpe. We rented a car at the airport and drove up to the house wich is situated at the foot of a mountain. Spain is not that far away but the scenery is so different from the scenery in my country. Most travellers will say "I've travelled to Europe" without knowing how different the European countries are from each other. My country is flat and located below sea-level! Spain is more rocky and dry with mountains and hills! The climat is much better than in my country! We drove from the airport trough a landscape of hills, mountains, small mountainroads (scary) and steep cliffs. Normally when I visited Spain I went to the real touristic areas like Salou.
The House
That was nice but this is a totally different side of Spain. The beautifull, rocky landscape, small restaurants with great wine and nice food, the peacefull and calm little towns.
We went shopping in a big city once wich was nice, but we spent most of the time enjoying the more quiet parts of the area. Since I love animals we couldn't leave without seeing the zoo and the marine animal park. That was really great! I love animals, especially sea- animals. I think its fascinating how they slide trough the water, I can watch that all day! We also went to visit a themepark in the area called "Terra Mitica". It's a very pretty themepark and I can recommend it to everybody. There's a big coaster built against the side of a mountain wich is really cool and the scenery in the park is great.
The house
I'd say the scenery is even better than the rides! The park is all about myths and it's divided in different area's. The first area behind the entrance is very pretty. It's all about pharao's and piramids and mystic ancient times. Be sure to get an evening pass because it's very hot during the day! At that time here weren't a lot of visitors due to the heath!
This area is great for a romantic and calm trip to get away from the hectic daily stuff. Its a beautifull area with romantic little restaurants and nice paths for romantic walks in the mountains. I can really recommend this area for people who want to get away from everything for a while and are looking for some peace and calmth! The best part about it for me are the evenings/nights. The house is placed on a mountain and the sky is always clear so at night you feel like you're surrounded by the stars! It's very beautiful. Me and my friend Angela went up to the house once and we were outside for hours just staring into the skies and enjoying some good wine :) What a life..!!
