Albanian church in Kish

Went from Telavi to Sheki mostly by public transport, but from Lago Delhi to the border by taxi and on to Balakan also by taxi. It did take me 8 hours, the first minibus is leaving around 7.30, if you want be sure to make it the same day you should take that. At the Georgian side of the border is a money changer, most likely you get a better rate there, at the other side was only someone on the street changing. My remaining Georgian money I was only in the Sheki post office able to change. From Balakan to Sheki are only 2 minibuses per day, there are more connections if you change in Zapata language,  but will arrive at the old bus stop near the cent er and have to move to the new terminal (about 4 kilometer).

In Sheki the Canal Hostel was a pleasant surprise

The Xan Sarayi  is a must see, a palace built inside the fortification  in the 18.

Qafqaz restaurant
century with very nice wall paintings inside,  unfortunately no pictures permitted. Next to it and much older a Albanian church is also interesting. In the Winter Palace, Shekixanlarinin Evi, you are allowed to make pictures of a similar styled interior. In Kish, a short excursion from Sheki in an other Albanian church, built appearently in the 1. century above a pagan temple. All entrance fees are 2 Manat, the camera permit in the Winter Palace is 3 Manat. Also interesting is the interior of the Karavansaray, now a hotel.

Had some uninspiring dinner at the Qafqaz restaurant close to the hostel, the Chalabi Xan at Bextier Park was then a little more expensive but definately better, had a nice Borsht.

The train station is about 17 km south of the town, the train to Baku leaves at 9.50 pm, there is no bus to the station (taxi about 5 to 6 Manat, ~€ 3). The ticket you can get in the Sheki basar in the west of the town, look in the southeastern corner for a shop 'Aviakassa',  around the corner is a door  with a train painted above, thats the ticket office, you will need your passport, and you will get a paper slip which will be exchanged at the station before you leave in a ticket (or the ticket printer will be working again in that place). About € 3,50 for 3. class, Platzkarty, similar to a couchette.
