Georgetown

To Penang I went from Kuala Lumpur by bus, 38,50 RM and 5 hours. From inside the bus terminal the bus number 402 goes to Komtar and the ferry in Georgetown for 2 RM and about one hour, there is also a bus to Batu Ferringhi

From the Georgetown ferry station and Komtar the bus number 401E goes to the airport, 2,70 RM and 1.5 hours (or longer depending on traffic).

Train tickets you can buy at the ferry station, the train station is in Butterworth close to the Butterworth ferry station, free to Butterworth, 1,50 RM to Georgetown. For going to Bangkok you must now change the train at the border (minibus to Hat Yai in Thailand and then train is the better option).

Penang has a lot of excellent and reasonable restaurants. For Indian food I like Krishna Villas (Dosa’s and Thali’s, Lebuh Pasar), the Restoran Kapitan (Tandori Chicken, Lebuh Chulia), for Chinese the Tai Tong (Dim Sum, Lebuh Cintra), Kafe Kheng Pin (Char Koay Teow, Jalan Penang), for Indonesian the Hotel International (Padang food, Rendang, on the western extension of the Lebuh Chulia).
