Bow Fell
August 24, 2007
The promise of good weather in the Lake District was enough to encourage us to get up and set off at 6am today. It takes a lot to get me out of bed at that time, but it was worth it. We set off on a glorious day just before 9am. This walk starts at the head of the Langdale valley and has fantastic views all day.
This was a pretty easy walk to the summit of Bowfell, taking the simple route up 'The Band' and then up the summit path to the top. We intended to walk along the climbers traverse and do a bit of scrambling but unfortunately missed the path and therefore the best views of Bowfell. Not to worry, one for another day.
It was a wonderful walk with fantastic blue skies and sunshine. That was, right until we reached the summit when the mist rolled in and the views we had been looking forward to were covered in a blanket of pea soup. A quick sit on the top and obligatory photo and we retreated down a little for lunch.
Then returned down the long slope to the bottom. After a year of very little mountain walking you forget how hard coming down hill can be on the poor knees, but thinking of the pub at the end of the track kept us going.
