Escaping the norm...

Look out for these in the early evening...
My Air Asia flight left Singapore on Sunday at 1740 giving me plenty of time between the last day of school (Friday) and leaving to prepare for the upcoming trip. This was to be my first time travelling solo, so unchartered territory in more than one sense... apprehensive but excited, I made my way to the airport. Working at a large international in Singapore has its pressures, but when the holidays come, it's time to hit the reset button. It can however be difficult to escape the clutches of our school, what with it being such a large place with so many children, families and staff, so bumping into one of our new Teachers in KK airport was a stark reminder as to how far you have to go to completely cut the tether. A short taxi ride and I arrived at the Kinabalu Daya Hotel, and checked in before taking a stroll around the local area. Upon first impressions KK appeared drab and dirty, probably exaggerated slightly by the hue cast upon it by the lashing rain. Blocks of buildings at the North side of the city look weary, a stark contrast to the effervescent rat population whose presence is unavoidable it seems in certain streets, one almost running straight into me as I made my way back to the hotel for an early night before my prebooked tour up Mount Kinabalu in the morning...
