This was the shot I took. The cathedral was dark, the lighting was bad, and the scaffolding really detracted from the shot.
Back in 2005 we took our trip to Europe and had a chance to take so many great pictures of the wonderful historic buildings and sights. One of the first stops on our trip was in Koln (Cologne), Germany at the wonderful Kolner Dom, an impressive stone cathedral done in the Gothic style which turned out to be one of the more interesting cathedrals that I got a chance to see while in Europe. But one of the drawbacks is that they were in the process of removing the years and years on black coal soot from the extremely tall towers. This was a long lasting and painstaking job and took years to complete.
I looked at my photo when I got home and wished that there was a way of speeding up the process, and suddenly a thought came to mind. So I went to work, with my little scrub brush, some very strong soap, lots of elbow grease (or mouse clicking), and soon the building looked much better. And that darn scaffolding was gone too!
