In September i took a short break to the Peak District Derbyshire England . Boarding the train at Manchester Piccadilly i travelled to Buxton for a two night stay. at No.6 The Cresent posh Guest House.(see review)-------Buxton is a Geogian and Victorian architeture town with grand buildings.  There is much of historical interest including the Cresent which was built in 1780, when i was there it was under scaffolding,,--- The Old Hall built in 1573 was were Mary Queen of Scots stayed.---Pooles Caverns is a marvellous place to visit. underground caves with no stooping, but mind your head, admission is high but worth it ,about £15, about a mile from Buxtons famous Opera House.

Eyam church.
--- The Pavlion and Gardens are lovely.---The Dome at the now University of  Derby Buxton College  is the largest unsupported dome in Europe, can  be visited free.-- The Peak District is natural beauty with moors, dales, rivers, springs, and caverns,  breathtaking views, and pretty villages. Fine area for walking. --A trip out i took was by bus to Eyam, the plague village of1666. The museum and church tell the story of the plague deaths. Two plague cottages are on the main street. Bus 65 and 66 serve Eyam and Buxton.  I had a toasted teacake and tea at the teashop.  Roads in Derbyshire are well maintained sometimes narrow,it was while passing a parked work lorry that the bus scrapped a low wall damageing the bus.

There was no signal from anybodys mobile phone,so driver went up a hill in a field,to get a signal.to get a replacement bus ,which arrived in 45 minutes.--------After two nights in Buxton i took a public bus to Matlock Bath near Matlock also in the Peak District Derbyshire. I stayed two nights here.,at Ashdale Guest House and The Cables Bed and Breakfast, two places because i could not find accomoation at one place for two nights..(see review)=----Matlock Bath is situated in a gorge of the river Derwent a lovely place. There are Lead mine Museums, tearooms, a couple of pubs and eight fish and chip cafes, i tried two of the fish and chip cafes, tasty and cheap.-- I took the Cable car up to the Heights of Abraham.
Heights of Abraham cable cars. Matlock Bath
The cable car  goes from one side of the gorge, high over the A6 road ,to the other side of the gorge. At the Heights of Abraham are Caverns and a fossil museum plus exhibitions ,and kids play area.included in the cable car fare. Great views.--- The Heights of Abraham are open from March to November.  --There are car parking spaces at the bottom near the railway station.----I also  visited by bus ,from Matlock Bath , the Crich Tramway village, a museum full of well restored trams from all over the world. When i was there three trams were running rides,  so i hopped on a old style tram.  In the workshop i saw a tram being restored. There was a old fashioned pub with refreshments. Lovely sandwich and pint. There is car parking just before the museum entrance ticket office. Has the car turns off the main road proceed for about 150 metres.

Admission to museum was about £14, worth it. The ticket is resuable for a year..The museum is run by a charity.  The helpers are volunteers, and you can see that they enjoy it..--- This had been a great enjoyable short break,in the Peak District of England. --Matlock Bath is 18 miles from Derby the county town.  Buses go to Derby, Buxton , Crich,Matlock, and from Matlock to Sheffield.  I would say that Matlock is about a mile from Matlock Bath, along the A6 road, through the gorge of the river Derwent.  Train runs from Matlock and Matlock Bath to Derby.-----In Buxton there is a small tourist information office in the Pavilion near the cafe.   In Matlock Bath the information office is just inside the Lead Mining Museum entrance, two helpful ladies here.
