First Mentor stop: State Park discovered during morning run.

Kicked off the trip with a morning run.  The desk clerk advised turning right at the light in front of the hotel because it was residential and she often saw joggers while commuting to work each morning.  I highly doubt I was at the wrong light because there was not much around here, so I suspect she meant a left turn.  As it turned out, I tooled along the broad shoulder of a four lane highway for several miles without glimpsing a single homestead.

No worries with broad shoulders along the road and a few discoveries as I ventured about three miles north.  First encounter was a sign for a restaurant named Pickle Bill’s (where I would ultimately return for dinner) and then a T where my road ended at Headlands Beach State Park.  Here I flipped around and returned to the hotel for a shower and breakfast.

I had arranged to meet Cindy at Lawnfield at 10:30AM, so I kicked off early to explore Headlands Beach SP briefly before pushing on to downtown Mentor, resulting in an additional review, below.

Second Mentor stop: Lawnfield - the reason for this entire trip!
Cindy was in the parking lot and after exchanging hugs she hustled me inside to the Visitor Center – tours began every 45 minutes and one was beginning at 10:30!  See the review below for details on Lawnfield, the presidential home of James Garfield.

After our tour we repaired for lunch at Melt, then drove into Cleveland to visit Lake View Cemetery, covered in next blog entry.  Eventually I made it back to Mentor and struck back out for dinner at Pickle Bill’s, with enough time to enjoy a nightcap at a brew pub by the hotel (Brew Mentor), also reviewed below.  A terrific day of discovery.
