Ain’t it grand to be in a pickle?

Welcome to Grand River...jewel of nowhere in particular.

Goodness, so many diversions from Mentor during this day of exploration.  As noted in the first entry for today, my morning run revealed a sign for a restaurant named Pickle Bills, an invitation for any self-respecting TB if ever there was one.  After the terrific day devoted to Garfield, I returned to the hotel and showered before heading back to check this place out for my evening meal.

This is a delightful village (population only 400) named for the river flowing past the handful of buildings.  Appearances led me to believe the river and local tourism is the mainstay of the economy, because there did not seem to be much else around.  The river adds lovely scenery to the area and although there did not seem to be any marina, a ton of boats were moored in the water.

A very pleasant small community along a creek flowing north into Lake Erie.
Grand River is one of the unusual north flowing variety, a tributary to Lake Erie, which cannot be more than a mile away (thus a handy point to park your boat).

I was surprised the minimal population had spawned one celebrity – this is the hometown of Don Shula, former head coach of the Miami Dolphins professional football team (he was at the helm for a pair of Super Bowl championships and led the team to the one and only undefeated season in league history).  I do not think there is anything here to capture your attention, but both restaurants were fairly large and packed to the rafters on a Saturday evening, so I am guessing the pleasant scenery makes this a nice getaway for Cleveland residents.
