Langkawi International Airport

Langkawi Island is not connected to the mainland, and therefore it is impossible to get here by any land transport. The only way to get to the island is due air transport (by aircraft) and on water one (by passage-boat).

There is a detailed description of all the ways to get to Langkawi.

On the island, there is famous Langkawi International Airport. Regular flights are carried out from Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, and also seasonally from Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Phuket. Planes from Kuala Lumpur and Penang fly almost every hour. The cheapest thing to get from Russia and the CIS is by plane with a transfer in Kuala Lumpur.

Langkawi by car

You can get to Langkawi on the ferry from the various cities – Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis, Penang Island, Satun and Ko Lipe Island in Thailand. Ferries are of the high level of cmfort, high-speed and have air-conditioning. Langkawi has two main ferry operators – Langkawi Ferry and Telaga Harbor. The main quay Kuah Jetty on Langkawi is situated in  Kuah town.

It is a pleasure to travel by train in Malaysia. Train tickets are inexpensive, and the carriages are comfortable. However, getting to Langkawi by train is not so easy, because it's  not connected by land. You can reach the nearest cities of Alor Setar (Kuala Kedah) or Arau (Kuala Perlis), and then continue your way on ferry.

Public transportation of the island is almost not developed.

Buses run only between the main areas of the island – the city of Kua, the pier, the airport and the beach of Pantai Chenang.

Another way of transport is taxi. You won’t find any counters there. It is a fact, that in Langkawi taxis there are fixed-price fare, in the form of a fare from one point to another or a fee for an hourly taxi rent. Prices are quite high.

The most convenient way to travel around the island is by car, which can be hired at car rental in Langkawi airport.

So, we get to Langkawi and are ready to go for excursions. Excursions around Langkawi are rich in ancient and romantic legends.

You can choose between the following ones:

Sightseeing tour of the island of Langkawi includes visiting famous sights, a ride on a cable car, from where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the island and a visit to the oceanarium or waterfall.

Eco tour is perhaps the only excursion to Langkawi which will fully acquaint you with the traditional craft of the Malays – growing rice. You will walk through the rice fields, sow or take part in collecting rice, stroll through the fragrant garden of spices and visit the fruit farm.

Perhaps the most adventurous excursion to Langkawi is fishing. Traveling to small islands near Langkawi will be a welcome adventure for those who are not indifferent to fishing. You have the opportunity to go fishing in a tropical paradise.
