Today in Budapest we had the opportunity to attend the official press conference and meet with the event organisers. It was really good to finally meet up with Andrew and Evi after so many e mails and correspondence.
It was good to meet with some of the other teams. Miss Hungary was also there and I was able to get a photo with her in front of the car. I think she asked to have her picture taken with me!!
After this Andrew took us on a short tour of the city down to Hero square. This was filmed by the travel channel so we might appear on that.
In the afternoon we completely emptied out the car and repacked it, as it was a little rear heavy (bit like myself). It was so cold but glad we did it.
This great day ended with a really good meal and a bit of a going away party. We don’t want to drink the night before the start.
This morning we parked the car at the official start line ready for the off tomorrow. We wanted to make sure we are part of the official start. We did not want to drive this far and have to start from the side streets. I polished the car and we finished our final servicing a last small fixes.
The engine is still tapping away with its mystery noise but working fine. It got us this far so im sure we will get to Mali.
Early night tonight raedy for the start. I cant actually believe we are finally here. After all the months of planning and stress I sometimes had doubts whether it would ever actually happen. Its great to see the other teams. Some have some great vehicles and look like they have spent a lot of money. We have already made friends with 3 Hungarian photographers who are driving the same type of jeep as us. Im sure they will be the first of many.
