Leaving from Beijing

I took the 48 hour train from Beijing to Kunming.  For this trip, I opted for the most expensive option, the soft sleeper, and I think it was worth it.  The soft sleeper actually isn't any softer than the hard sleeper, but you have 4 beds in a compartment instead of 6 and you can close the door to the compartment for privacy.  You also get a private reading light.

My compartment had five people instead of four.  One of them was a little boy travelling with his dad.  The little boy spoke english pretty well, and he's only 10.  His favorite catch phrase seemed to be "Oh my GOD!"  Which he repeated every chance he got.

Mostly we just sat around and read, ate, played cards, or talked.  The two days went surprisingly fast.
