At Orlando International airport while waiting for the flight to Aruba

Southwest Airlines operates a direct daily flight from Orlando, Florida to Oranjestad, Aruba and last month we went to this "One Happy Island" for a short break.  Flying time is just three hours and we arrived at Queen Beatrix International Airport in the early afternoon, without feeling any jet lag because Aruba is in the same time zone as the eastern United States.  The airport is quite modern and all female passengers were presented with a complimentary shopping bag containing brochures and guide books.

Immigration formalites were quick and easy.  However, the luggage of all arriving passengers had to be passed through an X-ray machine again at Customs.  I seldom encounter this checking of every piece of baggage on arrival at any airport.  Yes, sometimes there are random checks on a few passengers, but not everybody.  Anyway, it was just a slight delay and didn't upset me at all.

There is a duty free shop too right besides the baggage claim area so you can make a quick purchase of some items while waiting for your suitcases.  You'll also see an Information counter as you exit with more brochures and pamphlets available free of charge.

A taxi stand is just outside the airport with fixed rates to your destination.  As we were going to downtown Oranjestad the fare was US$ 25 for a 10-15 minute ride to the Renaissance Hotel.

@Em, Paul, Belinda, Crystal, Holger, San, Amudha...thank you very much to all of you for the congrats on my featured blog on Aruba. Just got back from a wonderful trip to Havana, Cuba. Forget the bad reports about Cuba....it's not like what the media makes it out be.
