Acceptance into Integrated Mathematical Oncology program was a true blessing

With Lauren being a rising Senior in HS, pre-planned trip to Macchu-Pichuu, Peru had to be put on hold. Luckily all reservations were refundable and I had gone only as far as making just the hotel bookings back in December. As soon as we got word that she got one of those coveted spots as a research-assistant at Moffitt Cancer Centre, we cancelled the Peru bookings. The Moffitt acceptance was purely the hand of God, given it was so competitive with nationwide applicants. She delved into intermittent hypoxia and finished the 8-week stint with a presentation of a simulation which earned her kudos from the County School board director and compliments from several attendees. There was even a Q&A session they had to field from doctors and PG doc students. I took the day off from work to attend the event and felt very blessed she had this opportunity.

With her Boba group!
The Oncology doctors and research-scientists were very gracious and encouraging of the students.  She introduced me to her 'Boba group' - fellow RA's who put in long hours hopped-up on boba tea! I got to see the lab and glass conference collabaratorium!

Meanwhile, Cassie my 9th grader, spent her summer doing Advanced Java and Anatomy and Physiology online. She wanted to do more courses with HCC but I put my foot down and said she needed to have some chill time. This is one of those unique kids who is self-driven and a high-achiever, but one does worry if she is too hard on herself! Did 5 AP courses in 9 th grade and scored 5 on all of them. AP Macro/Micro Economics and all those equations and graphs were truthfully even over my head and she seemed to effortlessly get through it! I am so proud of this child - heads down academician.

Moi in the meantime was working long hours at work and stress levels were high. The children and their Dad often joked that Alexa had to be instructed to keep my Study at a cool 75 'cos they could hear me ranting. No one in the house uses colorful language and I am embarrassed that I do. I must stop! I even bought myself Jane Fonda exercise tapes to get back to a zen-state of mind.

So, when we found ourselves '10 free days' before school re-started, Banff beckoned. Been forever on my bucket list. Pictures of jewel-colored lakes surrounded by the majestic Canadian Rockies has always struck me as one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Thanks Vik. For the dare-devil your version of Wapta glacier, for the scaredy cat my version of Athabasca glacier!
