Snorkeling in St. Thomas

St. Thomas is a great place to snorkel.  Koki beach is a nice place on the opposite side of the island (next to Coral World) where you can rent snorkel equipment and snorkel right off the beach.  Koki beach is usually less crowded and has more coral and fish than Magens Bay.  Magens Bay is where most of the cruise ships send their guests for their beach excursions.

If you're on Koki beach and want to try a great drink, ask around for "The Bomb."  It's a frozen drink made with several types of rum and topped off with a dark rum float.  Good times!

Another great idea if you like sailing and snorkeling is to take one of the private boat charters from the port.  You can purchase these (usually about 6 persons to a boat, plus the owners) online and pay about half what a cruise ship would charge for the same excursion.  These private boats will take you snorkeling around Buck Island and you can swim in the bay with the giant sea turtles.

St. John is nearby too if you have a little extra time to take the boat over to that nature sanctuary.

Did you make it over to St. John? If not I strongly recommend it on your next visit to St. Thomas. If you thought St. Thomas was great, you'll fall in love with St. John.
