Private Taxi Tour

Although the cruise ships provide some expensive bus tours of the island, we prefer to take taxis because we can spend as much time as we want in each location as we tour the island. (I've been to St. Lucia a couple times.)
On this trip, we took a private taxi tour of the island straight from the port. We agreed on a price for all of us before we got into the taxi -- a very smart thing to do when traveling. Then we had the taxi take us to the tourist-highlight locations on the island. If you don't have specific locations in mind, the taxis in St. Lucia will automatically take you to view the Pitons, the volcano, a waterfall, a fishing village, the beach, etc.
We specifically wanted to go to the Pitons and to see some great views of the villages. The volcano is interesting -- one time -- but it generally is very hot and smells a lot like rotten eggs (sulfur). You can see it on the side of the mountain from a distance, releasing steam into the air.
The taxis are reasonably priced (compared with an excursion purchased from the cruise ship) and you get a private tour with air conditioning for the day. Just a warning -- watch out for the crazy winding roads if you get car sick.... especially if the driver has a heavy foot!
