Watsons Bay
Today we had a well-earned lie-in and woke up at 1pm. It was another beautiful day here so we decided to take the boat to Watsons Bay across the harbour. We caught the train first to Wynyard and headed down to Circular Quay. Trains here are double-level, like European trains, but the seat backs fold over so you can choose whether to sit in a 2-seat, or to make 4 seats facing each other. The departure boards also have 'Tube minutes' - '4 minutes' till train is due becomes 10 minutes staring at the tunnel expectantly....
At Cicrular Quay we caught a 15 minute boat ride to Watsons Bay. Boats leave from the terminal all the time; some go from Bay to Bay, some go up the harbour to towns like Manly and Parramatta, some are international cruisers. They had the QEII and the Queen Mary here together recently!
At Watsons Bay we went to Doyles take-away, right on the pier.
After lunch we wandered through the park (a very English-looking park) up to the South Head and Gap Bluff where we got a great view over Watsons Bay and over the sea on the other side. We then walked further round the head and sat and watched the sunset from a deserted point before wandering down to the harbour, grabbing a soft drink from Doyle's Hotel (absteining from anything else today!) and catching the boat back, before heading home.
